Sports Marketing Agreements: Legal, Fiscal and ...

Sports marketing is not only a global phenomenon, but also a major industry in its own right. This book breaks new ground in that it combines the theory and the practice of sports marketing agreements, which are at the heart of the commercialisation and marketing of sport. A particular feature of this book is the wide-ranging collection of precedents of sports marketing agreements, including, inter alia, sponsorship, merchandising, TV rights and new media, sports image rights and endorsements, event management and corporate hospitality, that are included and are explained and commented on in the text of the book. The book also covers the EU aspects, which are particularly important in this context, especially collective selling, of Sports TV rights and the drafting of the corresponding agreements, as well as the fiscal aspects of sports marketing agreements in general and sports image rights agreements in particular, which need to be taken into account in order to reduce the tax burden on the resulting revenues. With so much money at stake in sports marketing, the book also deals with the important topic of dispute resolution and, again, provides the reader with some useful corresponding clauses for settling disputes by ADR, particularly through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). As the author remarks in his Preface, the aim of the book is to provide a leading resource for all those engaged in any way in the money-spinning field of sports marketing, combining - as this book uniquely does - both the theory and the practice of drafting, interpreting and enforcing a variety of sports marketing agreements, especially those with an international dimension.

Managing Relationships and Developing Sustainab...

When the Olympics are appraised as a catalyst for urban redevelopment and global media attention, the Games' management-related problems of the past, such as cost overruns, environmental damage, and the diversion of public funds to event-related expenditures have contributed to a history of unfulfilled economic promises and negative social impacts that continue to be concerns for host countries. However, there is a lack of research focusing on relationships between event organizers and corporate partners, particularly with respect to how the Corporate Social Responsibility programs of Olympic sponsors can be mobilized by an Organizing Committee to help achieve the sustainability and legacy goals of the host city, including economic development, social inclusion, and environmental footprint reduction. This book, therefore, provides a new model of analyzing the sustainability and legacy aspects under the partnership management strategies between an Olympic Games Organizing Committee and corporate sponsors. Based on the case of Vancouver, also discussed are the major relationship factors that influence corporations to be involved in both Olympic sponsorship and sustainability.

The staging of small-scale sports events is becoming increasingly popular as a strategy for economic diversification and development, particularly in regional communities where tourism is a key driver of the local economy. In many instances, corporate sponsorship revenue provided by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is the financial lifeblood of these small-scale events. However, little research has paid attention to the management processes underpinning sponsorship agreements between SMEs and small-scale sport tourism events. This book provides a detailed insight into the management of sponsorship agreements at the local level. The book highlights a number of implications that will be of interest to event managers, sponsors, as well as researchers and students interested in the fields of corporate sponsorship and/or the management of special events.

Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject Sport - Sport Economics, Sport Management, University of Göttingen (Institut für Sportwissenschaften), course: Sportveranstalter und Marketing, 16 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Today's sport manager or administrator do not only have to be familiar with the process of management, but also need a knowledge of sport and the people involved with it. They are required to have management skills as well as a feeling for the business, which includes legal aspects. All kind of sport institutions or manifestation are influenced by legal aspect settings by constitutional / public law, federal civil rights, federal constitutions or contracts. Especially the wide range of opportunities of event management and marketing always leads to potential problems which are covered by legislation. Organizers and managers are often unaware of all essential legal duties when they are preparing and drafting a marketing plan. Many of them search specialist advice from lawyers, safety experts, and others with specific expertise in the areas they are unsure about. The risks of ignoring the duties should not be underrated at first glance, to do so could lead to consequences which could leave uncalculating damages and fatally problems for the organization or marketing plan (vgl. WATT 1998, 140 ff.). Even sport management and marketing is mainly based by total quality management which essentials are just to be more effective (vgl. WATT 1998, 114 ff.). Searching a solution or making a recreation plan is normally too late or a worst case. This is the reason why the combination of sport and legislation of management have become more demanding. The following chapters are about the host of legal issues affecting the marketing of products. The risks and duties of making sport products, as well as performing sport events, are illustrated in consideration of the property rights or the danger of collision with other currently available rights. Particularly, the chapters show how to protect own intellectual property associated with the creation of a product or with ideas developed out of sport sponsorship and licensing programs. Although this work mainly focuses on the U.S. law and literature, it is also internationally applicable and can be used in Germany, since the differences between the laws are minimal. This paper starts with a short overview about some legal basics, followed by their influence on marketing and sport business.
